Is Your Emergency Kit Ready?

7/24/2019 (Permalink)

Most of us here at SERVPRO of West Evansville do have an emergency you?

We were actually surprised to learn that 51.5% of US homes have the recommended emergency kit in their home or car. We thought it might be a lot less than that.

The American Red Cross encourages that each household and car have a preparedness kit.

The top items in an emergency kit should be:

  1. water
  2. canned food
  3. can opener
  4. flashlights
  5. batteries
  6. enough food and water for each person in your household for 5 days.

Be on the look out for our preparedness tips and tricks coming this September ! We will have videos and posts on our facebook page (click the link below in blue!) and youtube page. You won't want to miss it!

A Clogged Downspout could Cause Flooding!

7/15/2019 (Permalink)

What is a downspout?

A downspout is a pipe that carries rainwater from a roof to the ground. For a downspout to work correctly it must be functioning correctly. Leaves and yard debris can end up causing plugs and clogs in downspouts leading them to back up and not drain as intended. If you see signs of pooling and puddles make sure to clean out and clear out your downspouts to eliminate the blockage and lessen your chances of flooding from rainwater.

Water damage is not fun, therefore SERVPRO of West Evansville is here to give you tips on how to prevent it from happening at your home or office. If you do experience water or fire damage let us take care of it by calling 812-465-2500.

Things you will want to include in an emergency preparedness kit are usually things for you will need to survive for at least 72 hours. Make sure to keep an emergency kit stocked and ready for an emergency in home. Here is a quick check list of items that you may want to keep in your emergency preparedness kit. Most of these items are easy to find and inexpensive:

Water – 1 gallon of water per person per day for at least 3 days

-Food – Non-perishable food for at least 3 days

-Manual can opener for food

-Hand crank radio or battery powered radio

-First aid kit

-Dust Mask

-Local Maps

-Cell phone with chargers and a backup battery

-Prescription medications

The most powerful Tornadoes occur in the United States. While a typical tornado only lasts for a few minutes, it's damage can effect miles in those short few minutes. And while you can't predict when a tornado will touch down, most commonly a tornado touches down between 3pm and 9pm.
